The situation
Quartz Importers MN supplies quartz surfaces to hospitality and construction projects across the upper Midwest. The sales team needed to know which projects were coming, who owned them, and who to call. I took the CTO seat in November 2024, responsible for everything except field sales and field work.
What I did
- Built a 49-workflow agent platform in n8n: harvesters, extractors, enrichers, lead scoring, conversational agents, outbound alerts, and monitors.
- Pulled building permits from city open-data systems in Chicago, Minneapolis, and Milwaukee through one adapter pattern.
- Built a Neo4j knowledge graph of organizations, people, projects, permits, and locations that the sales team can browse, search, and expand.
- Wrote a 10-factor lead score with a feedback loop, and a query system that scores its own searches and retires the weak ones.
- Added quality gates so low-value pages skip the paid scraping and AI steps.
- Set up five role levels with field-level access and an audit trail.
- Sourced and wired the vendors: Firecrawl, Tavily, Apollo, SendGrid, Twilio.
What changed
The workflow engine's overview screen showed 39,645 production executions, 88 of them failed, a 0.2 percent failure rate. The graph view showed 677 nodes and 682 edges live in the product.
In about 30 days the platform had taken in the whole market the company sells into. The sales team could see it in three dimensions, every project, owner, and connection, and use it to plan the brand and the go-to-market.
What it says about working with me
I can own the whole technology job for a growing company, and I keep it running in production.
