The situation
In 2000 the digital team at Olson was two people, Chris Henderson and me. Space150, the shop we were up against, had fifteen or twenty. Anyone in the building could walk over and ask for a website, and we put out more than a dozen a year.
UV was Phillips's new vodka. The launch had no TV, no print, and no outdoor. The website was most of the launch.
What I did
- Programmed the Phillips UV site in Flash.
- Wrote the music and sound for it with designer Jeff Tranberry.
- Worked with art directors Cindy Olson and Chris Henderson, creative director John Olson, and writer Derek Bitter.
What changed
The site was selected into The One Show 2002 annual as an Interactive Merit, with my name on it twice: programmer, and music and sound. The record is on oneclub.org. UV went on to become the best-selling product in Phillips history.
What it says about working with me
I have built for the web since 2000, on small teams that had to punch above their size, and I still build the thing myself.
