AI Overviews and AI Mode build their answers from pages Google already ranks and trusts. So the path in runs through ordinary Google search, with pages built to be quoted.
What kind of page gets cited in an AI Overview?
A page that answers one question, in the first sentence, with something specific. "A one-page website costs $1,500" can be quoted. "We craft digital experiences tailored to your needs" cannot.
- One question per page. The question is the title. The answer is the first line under it.
- Specifics. Prices, timelines, steps, locations, names.
- Short sections with plain headings, each one a follow-up question a buyer would ask next.
- A short FAQ at the bottom with questions the rest of the page did not cover.
Do I have to rank on regular Google first?
Mostly, yes. Google pulls AI Overview sources largely from pages that already rank well for the question or for closely related ones. If your page is on page four of the regular results, it is rarely the source. Fix the basics first: a fast site, a clear title, real content, and links from other sites.
Does structured data help?
It helps Google understand what a page is. Schema markup for your business (LocalBusiness or Organization), your services, your FAQs, and your articles tells Google who you are, where you are, and what the page answers. It does not guarantee a citation. It removes guesswork, and pages without it are harder to place.
What does my Google Business Profile have to do with it?
A lot, for local questions. When someone asks AI Mode for a contractor, a clinic, or a consultant near them, Google leans on Business Profiles: categories, services, hours, photos, reviews, and how you answer them. A half-filled profile loses to a complete one. I set them up for $600.
How do I know if I am showing up?
Google Search Console. Its performance report includes impressions and clicks from Google's AI features along with regular search. Check it weekly and compare month to month. On Lukes & Lukes, my own appraisal firm, Google AI impressions went from 689 to about 1,450 in 90 days, and the site logged about 15,300 Google search impressions over three months.
What does it cost to get set up?
A check-up is one hour for $150: I look at what Google and the assistants show for your business now and tell you what to fix first. A Business Profile done right is $600. Answer pages with a website start at $1,500. Details are on the AI search page.
